Agreement
By using Rithmatic, you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, do not use the app or related services.
About Rithmatic
Rithmatic is an independent utility for managing the programs and sequences stored on a Korg volca FM2, over a USB-MIDI connection. It imports and converts Yamaha DX7-format patch files, transfers patches to and from the instrument, lets you design patches on a visual operator canvas, and captures and restores full-device snapshots.
Not Affiliated with Korg or Yamaha
Rithmatic is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or supported by Korg Inc. or Yamaha Corporation. “Korg,” “volca,” and “volca FM” are trademarks of Korg Inc.; “Yamaha” and “DX7” are trademarks of Yamaha Corporation. All are used here only to describe the hardware the app works with and the patch format it reads. Using this app is not a substitute for, and may not be covered by, any warranty or support Korg provides for your device.
The App Writes to Your Hardware
This is the important one. Rithmatic sends data to a physical device you own. Writing a patch to a memory slot overwrites whatever was in that slot, including factory content. Restoring a snapshot overwrites the instrument's stored memory — all of its programs and sequences — in one action. Sending to the edit buffer replaces the sound currently loaded. These actions are performed at your direction and cannot generally be undone from within the app.
Back up anything you care about before you overwrite it. Rithmatic can capture the whole instrument into a snapshot precisely so you can do this, but it is your responsibility to actually do it.
Transfers Can Fail
Transfers depend on your device, your operating system, its MIDI stack, the USB cable and any hub, adapter, or interface in the chain, your volca's firmware version, its power state, and the state of its memory. A transfer can be interrupted, time out, or fail partway. Interrupting a transfer — unplugging the cable, losing power, backgrounding or force-quitting the app, or letting a battery die mid-send — can leave a slot, the instrument's memory, or a sequence in an incomplete or unexpected state, and in some cases can require power-cycling the device to recover.
We do not warrant compatibility with any particular device, firmware version, operating system version, cable, adapter, MIDI interface, or hardware revision, including future ones.
Assumption of Risk
You are solely responsible for your use of Rithmatic and for any transfer, overwrite, deletion, restore, or other action you take with it. You assume all risks of using the app with your hardware, including the risk of losing patches, losing sequences, losing factory content, corrupting device memory, needing to power-cycle the device, and any effect on your device's warranty or support status.
Your Patches and Your Rights
You keep ownership of the patches, names, tags, and snapshots you work with in Rithmatic. You are responsible for having the rights to any patch data you import, convert, transfer, or export. Many DX7 patch banks circulate freely, but others are commercial products with their own licences — it is up to you to know which is which. Do not use the app to copy, distribute, or use patch data you do not have the right to use. The app does not include or redistribute any manufacturer's factory sound library.
Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use Rithmatic for unlawful, infringing, or deceptive purposes.
- Import, transfer, or export patch data you do not have the right to use.
- Attempt to reverse engineer, interfere with, or abuse the app or services.
- Use the app in a way that suggests it is a Korg or Yamaha product, or is endorsed by either.
Purchases
Rithmatic is free, and every feature works without paying. It includes an optional “tip jar” — a few one-time in-app purchases you can make to support development; they unlock nothing. There are no subscriptions and no ads. Tips, and any store-level payment, pricing, taxes, refunds, and availability, are handled by the App Store or Google Play (and by RevenueCat, which processes the purchase) under their own terms. Tips are non-refundable except where the store's policies or applicable law require otherwise.
Open-Source Components
Rithmatic's built-in sound engine and audio output are built from open-source software, which remains under its own licences. Those licences and their attributions are credited in the app. Nothing in these terms limits the rights granted to you by an applicable open-source licence.
Intellectual Property
Rithmatic, Best Practice, the app design, branding, software, and related materials are owned by Best Practice or its licensors. These terms do not grant you ownership of the app or brand assets.
Disclaimers
Rithmatic is provided “as is” and “as available,” with all faults and without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, statutory, or otherwise. To the fullest extent allowed by law, we disclaim all warranties, including warranties of accuracy, reliability, completeness, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, quiet enjoyment, non-infringement, uninterrupted operation, availability, and error-free performance.
We do not warrant that transfers will succeed, that a converted patch will sound identical to the original on any particular instrument, that snapshots will be complete or restorable, or that the app is suitable for any particular device, firmware, or workflow.
Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent allowed by law, Best Practice and its owners, employees, contractors, partners, affiliates, and licensors will not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, punitive, or other damages arising from or related to your use of, reliance on, or inability to use Rithmatic.
This limitation includes lost or corrupted patches, lost sequences, lost factory content, damaged or unusable hardware, voided warranties, lost data, lost work, lost profits, interrupted performances or sessions, and claims by third parties, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.
Changes
We may update Rithmatic or these terms from time to time. Continued use after updated terms are posted means you accept the updated terms.
